Open music improvisation workshop on 2 May 2026 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer opening - concluding with a flash mob on the Cultural Summer Mile

On 02 May 2026, the intercultural improvisation orchestra Play together! from Trier and the Berlin Impromptu orchestra to an open workshop as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer Opening. From 10:00 to 13:00, a musical meeting place will be created in Kaiserslautern for people of different origins, ages and levels of experience.

The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to make music together - regardless of previous musical training, knowledge of sheet music or instrument experience. Both experienced musicians and those with no prior knowledge are welcome. Instruments can be brought along and a selection is also available on site. Voice, body percussion and performative forms of expression are also part of the open concept.

ZusammenSpiel! sees music as a universal language that transcends cultural, linguistic and social boundaries. The orchestra brings together people with and without a history of migration and develops a common musical language of improvisation, listening and spontaneous creation. The workshop will be accompanied by the Stegreif Orchester - the only professional improvisation orchestra in Germany that stands for conductor-free, notation-free and movement-orientated music-making.

The workshop focuses on the shared experience of improvisation: How is music created in the moment? How do individual voices become a collective sound? The aim is to make encounters, creative self-efficacy and intercultural exchange audible.

The event will conclude with a joint flash mob with both orchestras on the Kultursommer-Meile - a public, powerful symbol of diversity, participation and musical freedom in the centre of the city.

The number of participants is limited to 30 people, registration is required. Participation is free of charge.

With this workshop, ZusammenSpiel! and Stegreif are sending a visible and audible signal in favour of an open, diverse and solidary society in Rhineland-Palatinate as part of the state-wide opening of the Kultursommer.

WHAT IS INTERACTION?

Interplay is a new music project in Trier. It brings together people with very different stories: Some were born here, some have lived in Germany for a long time, some have only recently arrived.

What counts here is not where you come from or what language you speak. What counts here is that we meet each other - with openness, curiosity and a love of music. We improvise together, discover new sounds and grow into a colourful, lively community.

We cordially invite you, Part of this special orchestra to become. Because music connects - and everyone can join in!

The project is funded as part of the federal programme „Social Cohesion - Local. Networked. Connected.“ programme with funding from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation for Culture.

We would like to thank our co-operation partners the City of Trier, the Stegreif Orchester from Berlin, the Karl Berg Music School Trier, Musik Mohr Trier, Musik Kröger Trier, Azad Musik Bochum and the donor Kulturstiftung Sparkasse Trier.
