Riesling is not the most popular drink in reggae music. But the combination fits perfectly in the Moselle valley. And we should celebrate that. On 900 square metres of grass!
"Say no with all your heart!" proclaims the band Guacáyo on a Friday evening on a stage in Hamburg's Gängeviertel, announcing the next song. The title of the song: Lady. Guacáyo is a band on stage with a cheeky indie-pop sound that calls for saying no to the norm and yes to yourself. Guacáyo is all about expressing all emotions, and their concerts are no exception. Musically, the band doesn't use pigeonholes, but rather spans a wide range, creating a unique indie pop with influences from reggae and hip-hop. They sing about feminism and pigeonholing, environmental protection and deep feelings. Socially critical songs encourage people to dance and do things differently. Guacáyo - that's the singer and songwriter Sophie Filip. That's Tim Lucas on guitar and backing vocals. That's Tobias Nitzbon on synth bass and keys. And that's Justus Murphy on drums. Guacáyo have been writing, producing and recording their songs together since 2017. In the same year, they played at the Alstervergnügen in Hamburg and are now also known there in large clubs such as Knust, Docks and Grünspan. In 2019, they were the support act on the European tour of the Australian breakthrough band Lime Cordiale and played at 3000 Grad and Skandalös Festival. Guacáyo's single Felicity has been playing steadily on Deutschlandfunk Kultur since 2020. After over 300 gigs in Germany and Europe, the band is set to perform at festivals such as Fusion and Summerjam as well as the Lemonade Tour 2021. The new EP, which will be released in May 2021, inspires appropriately for the current time with the title Lemonade: If life gives you lemons, make lemonade out of them.
They are accompanied by Isabelle Wolff - As a little girl, she would run around her parents' house singing with a small portable recording device and a microphone. When she got older, she wanted to turn her love of music into a career. The result is expressive gipsy jazz pop with German lyrics.
