OUR PRINCIPLE OF SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a central principle for us. As Kulturkarawane, we consider ecological, social and economic aspects together and consistently implement them in our work - in Trier, in the Moselle Valley and in the Greater Region. Our events are designed to enable cultural participation and at the same time contribute to the development of a fair, inclusive and sustainable society.

Our team regularly undergoes further training - particularly in the areas of ecological sustainability, inclusion, awareness, integration and dealing with right-wing extremist tendencies. One team member is currently qualifying as a transformation manager for sustainable culture (IHK). We are also preparing a carbon footprint of our events in order to record and reduce our emissions.

Measures for ecological, social and economic sustainability

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations are a global framework for a fair, environmentally friendly and sustainable society. They combine social, ecological and economic sustainability.
We use the SDGs to visualise our commitment and set specific goals - from climate protection and inclusion to responsible consumption. The SDGs help us to better plan our projects, communicate with partners and demonstrate our impact. In this way, our work contributes to global goals - locally and together.

Health and well-being

We organise events in a way that promotes health: low-barrier access, quiet areas, drinking water, heat protection and vegetarian catering are standard. In addition, our formats offer encounters, creativity and participation - important building blocks for mental well-being.

Gender equality

We pay attention to the equal participation of all genders - on stage and in the organisation. FLINTA* people are specifically involved, power structures are reflected and gender-sensitive work processes are established.

Affordable and clean energy

Our solar technology and power banks allow us to provide permanent independence from electricity for up to 250 people. With the e-bike stage currently under development, we are bringing climate-friendly culture to cities and rural regions.

Fewer inequalities

Cultural participation for ALL is our aspiration. We organise our events to be accessible and inclusive - financially, spatially and communicatively.
We co-operate with social institutions and welcome suggestions and participation from all sections of society.

Sustainable cities and communities

Our events take place in public spaces - in both urban and rural contexts. We utilise spaces temporarily and in a resource-saving manner. When it comes to transport, we do not have our own fleet of vehicles and instead rely on car sharing, hire vehicles and cargo bikes.
We create spaces for encounters that have a lasting impact - through cultural activation, temporary design and collaboration with local stakeholders.

Sustainable consumption and production

We work according to the 3R rule: Reduce, Reuse, Recyclewith the aim of Zero-waste strategy approach. These include:

  • Avoidance of disposable materials

  • Reuse and upcycling of decorations and furnishings

  • Waste separation

  • Resource-saving catering

  • Careful use of technology

  • Energy-efficient lighting

We are aware that the most sustainable use of resources is not to organise an event. At the same time, we recognise the social value of shared cultural experiences and organise our events as resource-efficiently as possible.

Climate protection measures

We use renewable energies, avoid unnecessary transport and rely on sharing models and energy-efficient technology. The CO₂ balance sheet will serve as the basis for further reduction measures in future.

Partnerships to achieve the goals

Our work is characterised by cooperation with initiatives, administrations, educational and cultural institutions. The participation of young people in all project phases is particularly important to us.
Further training in the Sustainability Action Network strengthens our ability to act and our integration into supra-regional networks.

Energy-efficient lighting: The use of modern, energy-efficient lighting reduces electricity consumption and minimises the ecological footprint.

Culture WITH everyone!

Barrier-free access: We ensure that our events are accessible for people with disabilities by providing lawn grates for wheelchair users, LED strips, audio transcriptions on screens and blindFind boxes.

Intercultural exchange: Our formats promote dialogue between different cultures and help to reduce inequalities.

Velo Stage: One of our innovative stages is the Velostage, a cargo bike with a lightweight stage and sound technology that is powered exclusively by solar technology. This stage is powered by bicycles and significantly reduces CO2 emissions. The Velo Stage places a publicly effective focus on the topic of sustainability and makes climate-friendly energy generation visible.
