A two-part workshop on sustainability and inclusion
Participants in FUTURA C always take part in two workshops, which are designed as a coherent learning journey spanning borders and topics. Each participant attends one workshop in France and one in Germany to promote international exchange and cooperation. At the same time, the two workshops complement each other thematically: one focuses on Sustainability, the other on Inclusion. This structure ensures that participants gain a holistic understanding of how to organise cultural events that are both environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive – whilst at the same time forging strong cross-border links with other professionals.

About the workshop
Regardless of the background, scale or theme of your event, there are practical solutions to maximise its social and environmental impact. The „Eco-Manifestations en Région Grand Est“ (EMeRGE) network will highlight the sector’s key environmental impacts and outline ways to improve them. Through practical case studies on the environmental impacts of various events, you will learn how to identify and measure relevant indicators in order to effectively reduce your event’s ecological footprint.
Workshop leaders: Anne-Laure Prunier
Anne-Laure PRUNIER is a development manager. With a background in science, she worked for several years as a biology researcher before moving into the cultural sector. For ten years, she was involved in contemporary music networks, working in the areas of sound management, hearing protection and responsible practices. Since 2023, she has been leading the „Eco-manifestation“ project at Jazzus – a cultural co-operative.
About the organisation
Eco-events organised by the „Réseau en Grand Est“ network – EMeRGE is a unique initiative in France. It brings together organisations committed to environmental change and supports event organisers in acting in an environmentally responsible manner. Across the entire region, regardless of the type and scale of the event (music festival, sporting event, village fair, etc.), anyone can now draw on a plan tailored to their specific context and demonstrate their commitment.

About the workshop
The goal of inclusion often still evokes a sense of being overwhelmed and gives rise to various reservations. Yet the fewer obstacles people face, the more exuberantly they celebrate at a festival. That is why this workshop guides participants through a process of reflection: What barriers exist at my festival – both on stage and behind the scenes? How can we discuss these barriers within the team and with the wider public? By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to critically examine their structures for barriers and take away approaches that can trigger both short- and long-term planning and changes. The aim is to reduce that sense of being overwhelmed and, through understanding, to arrive at individual ideas and solutions.
Workshop leader: Debo Oeming
Debo Oeming is a freelance cultural organiser and is currently studying for a PhD in Theatre Studies, focusing on disability and sexuality in the arts. Debo has been part of the Lebenshilfe Kunst und Kultur team since 2024 and took over as accessibility coordinator for their theatre festivals in 2026.
About the organisation
Lebenshilfe Kunst und Kultur gGmbH has been successfully working on inclusive cultural projects throughout Germany since 1997. Its theatre festivals provide a high-calibre platform for the art of people with disabilities and, through a variety of formats, explore relevant artistic and social themes relating to art, participation and the cultural sector.
WHAT IS FUTURA C?
Futura C is a project that brings together artists from France, Germany and other countries. It enables the cultural sector to rethink the way in which events are conceived, designed and produced.
Futura C equips cultural practitioners with the necessary skills and confidence to develop event formats that environmentally responsible, socially just and creatively bold are. Through a series of international workshops and a practical digital toolkit, participants discover practical strategies drawn from the EU GreenComp Framework as well as the EU principles of equality, diversity and non-discrimination.
Rooted in the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), Futura C supports professional development that makes a real difference: participants learn skills they can put into practice straight away, whilst at the same time helping to shape a more sustainable cultural landscape in the long term.
Our workshops are designed in such a way that for everyone involved in shaping the culture and events sector – whether behind the scenes, at the planning table or in the coordination office. This includes: festival and event organisers, cultural managers and producers, production teams and technicians, cultural educators, and teams from cultural institutions, associations and NGOs.
Each workshop is practical, collaborative and designed to develop new ideas that participants can put into practice straight away in their day-to-day work.
