MY URBAN PIANO 2025 - Music connects!

MY Urban Piano Trier will transform the city centre into an open stage in September 2025. Ten artistically designed pianos invite passers-by to pause, play along or simply listen. Whether young or old, professional or amateur: music becomes a unifying element in public spaces - spontaneous, creative and accessible to all.

Under the motto "Music connects!" sets My Urban Piano Trier a sign at a time of increasing social division, global crises and uncertainty. Music transcends borders, creates closeness and brings people of different backgrounds and realities together - right in the heart of the city.

The individually painted pianos are created in collaboration with citizens, accompanied by local artists and non-profit organisations. This makes participation visible and audible - in the spirit of a vibrant, diverse urban society.

A central partner is the Piano house Marcus Hübnerwhich not only provides the instruments as donations in kind and tunes them regularly, but also takes care of the transport - and as a co-initiator has helped to shape the project from the very beginning.

A special highlight are the four Producing Sessionswhich become public creative spaces: Amateur musicians and professionals improvise, compose and produce together on the following themes Hip hop, rock, vocals and music with children. Whether on the piano, with voice, guitar or beats - new worlds of sound are created here in the urban space and new encounters between people.

At several locations we also offer free taster piano lessons - low-threshold, spontaneous and open to anyone who simply wants to try out playing the piano.

With MY Urban Piano 2025 a consumer-free, cultural space for exchange, creativity and community - in the centre of Trier, in the centre of life.

Hip Hop - Live. Loud. Together.

Friday, 30 August 2025 - Pink Future Festival

Real beats. Real voices. Real energy. In our Producing Session "Hip Hop" you will make music, rap, write lyrics and improvise live - with your voice, instruments and anything that moves you. No playback, no show-off - just a shared space for expression, creativity and flow.
Join in - whether on the mic, with guitar, bass, trumpet or loop:

  • Write texts that tell a story
  • Bring in your sound - whether voice or instrument
  • Jamm with others or freestyle alone
  • Find your rhythm - and that of others

🎧Included:
Brice Bartone (Producer, NuBreeze) and Toby Urban (sound technology) accompany the session live. They pick up your sounds, mix, loop, amplify - and use them to create their own track of the moment. None of this is planned. Everything is created in the now.

No prior knowledge necessary. No prejudice allowed.
You are welcome - with whatever you bring with you. And with what you might be trying out for the first time.

More information on participation will follow soon.

World Music - Voices and sounds of diversity

Friday, 05 September 2025 - Urban Piano at Domfreihof

What happens when voices and instruments from different cultures come together? In our Producing Session "World Music the Domfreihof will become an open sound laboratory. Together with musicians from different cultural contexts, we will create new music on site - spontaneous, collaborative and full of diversity.
All are welcome:

  • Whether with their own voice, an instrument, with movement or through active listening - everyone can become part of the creative process.
  • The session thrives on open exchange and shared experience. Music becomes a unifying language that transcends all borders.
  • The session will be led by, among others Ahmad Abu Siam, percussionist and transcultural musician from Trier.

Included:
Toby Urban (sound technology) and Brice Bartone (Production, NuBreeze) accompany the session in the background. They combine the resulting sounds and melodies to create a unique Soundtrack of the moment together - live and directly on site.

More information on participation will follow shortly.

Vocal & choirs - voices that connect

Saturday, 06 September 2025 - Urban Piano at the Domfreihof

In the Producing Session "Vocal & Choirs" the human voice takes centre stage - as an expression, as an instrument and as a bridge between people. A public sound space is created in the Domfreihof where people can sing, improvise and experiment musically together.
Everyone is invited to join in - with or without singing experience:

  • The session will be led by the Trier singer Julia Reidenbachwhose work on the project Choir over bridges has extensive experience in participative and inclusive choral work.
  • It's not about perfection, but about shared experience, musical expression and spontaneous encounters through the voice.
  • Whether it's a polyphonic canon, rhythmic vocal passages or free improvisation - everything is created live on the spot, together with the people who are there.

Included:
Toby Urban (sound technology) and Brice Bartone (Production, NuBreeze) accompany the session technically and artistically. They pick up the emerging voices and mould them into an atmospheric Soundtrack of the moment - live at the Domfreihof.

More information on participation will follow shortly.

Discover music - for children

Saturday, 13 September 2025 - Trier plays

In our Producing session for children music becomes an experience. Whether voice, rhythm, movement or sound experiments - children discover how much fun it is to make music themselves.
What happens?
  • Children can freely try out what sounds, sings, rattles or grooves
  • Together with an experienced Music pedagogueswho specialises in making music with children, creates little sound stories and musical moments
  • The session is designed to be open - child-orientated, low-threshold and full of curiosity about what is being created at the moment

A producer accompanies the session in the background and takes up the children's ideas. He mixes, processes and creates a small soundtrack from voices and sounds - directly on site.

More information on participation will follow shortly.

FAQ About the Producing Sessions

All of them! Whether you are a beginner or a professional, young or old - you are welcome, just as you are. No previous musical training is necessary - our jam sessions are led by experienced professionals who will guide you through the process. No pressure, no competition - just a shared experience.

No. You can also just participate with your voice, your sense of rhythm, with movement or simply by actively listening.

Apart from our urban piano, we do not provide any instruments. If you need an instrument that you do not own, please indicate this on the registration form. We will be happy to check whether we can organise something through our network.

The sessions are open, participative and spontaneous. Musicians and producers create a live track together with you on site - nothing is predetermined. Everything is created in the moment.

We look forward to receiving your registration via the forms linked on this page so that we can better assess what technical infrastructure is required. You are also welcome to participate spontaneously - but the earlier we know about you, the better we can plan.

With pleasure! The more registrations we have, the better we can plan - but spontaneous escorts are also welcome.

If the weather is very bad, we will announce a weatherproof alternative location at least one day in advance. Please check our website or your emails.

The sessions are produced live. The result is a unique soundtrack of the moment - this can be published afterwards, but only if all participants agree.

Yes, listening is also a form of participation. You can decide at any time whether and how you want to get involved.

Not in principle. Only the children's session is explicitly aimed at children. For the other formats, everyone is welcome as long as respectful behaviour is maintained.
