Pay what you want!

FLYING GRASS CARPET 2023
Wednesday, 23 August - 10:00-15:00
Trier cattle market

Our children's day at the Flying Grass Carpet is a favourite classic for young and old. Regional institutions and artists offer a colourful programme of games, fun and hands-on activities. From book reading and circus workshops to children's fitness and clown shows, everything is included!

The event follows the motto "Pay what you want". We recommend a voluntary entrance fee of €6 per child at the box office (no advance booking).

Actors & programme:

City Museum - Journey of Discovery (continuous)

Who's waving from the Porta? Who is sailing across the Moselle? What is the mouse doing in the Dreikönigshaus? On large, soft crawling blankets, 1-2 year olds can go on their first voyage of discovery through Trier with songs, stories and simple play ideas. Older children can creatively explore the art and culture of Trier. The City Museum is looking forward to your visit!

Trier Tourismus & Marketing - Making lanterns for the Illuminale (continuous)

The motto of this year's Illuminale, which takes place on 29 and 30 September around Rindertanzplatz, Flanderstr., Dominikanerstr., Windstr., Hinter dem Dom, Domfreihof and Sieh um Dich, is "Light in the darkness". To bring light into the darkness, we will be making lanterns with you to illuminate the event site at the Illuminale.

Note: The lanterns will remain at the TTM until the Illuminale and will be fitted with a light there. After the Illuminale, you can collect them from the TTM and keep them.

Rappelkiste - Fun & Games (continuous)

The Rappelkiste will be providing a variety of games to ensure lots of fun on the flying carpet. The children can look forward to:

- Kubb

- Cornhole

- Ring toss game

- OGO-Sport

Verein für Jugendfreizeiten e.V. - Fun & Games (continuous)

At the stand of the Verein für Jugendfreizeiten e.V. you have the opportunity to test your marksmanship at the candy catapult, play exciting rounds of Match Four or compete against the werewolves of the Finsterwald. There will also be interesting information about what the organisation has to offer.

Paul Franzen - Create and experience circus (11 a.m. - 2 p.m., entry possible at any time)

Experience, discover and play in the circus. On Children's Day at Flying Grass Carpet, everyone can make their own circus. They can move, juggle, balance and try out all sorts of things. Paul Franzen is a trained clown and has also been involved in circus education for some time.
If you fancy the circus too, just drop by.
The free workshop is open to children of all ages and older children are also welcome to take part.

Reading from the book "Ein Drache namens Ei" with Sparkasse Trier (12:00-12:30)

It's difficult to be different. For Ei, it was almost impossible. As the first dragon ever born from a broken egg, he was special. How do you find your place in a family full of legendary dragons when you are so different compared to them? Egg is small for his age and can't even fly yet . . . And he hates his silly name. It reminds him every day how different he is from everyone else. Sometimes the smallest creature can make the biggest difference. Sometimes those we least expect surprise us the most.

Professor Muffington - Theatre (13:30-13:45; [15 minutes])

The theatre character Professor Muffington was developed by director Alexander Ourth, actor Sebastian Gasper and set designer Monika Dießner on behalf of Sommerheckmeck, the children's and youth culture festival at TUFA Trier. During the summer months, the crazy professor travels around the festival region and has incredible inventions and equally incredible stories from his time travels in his luggage. Funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media in the NEUSTART KULTUR programme, Young Audience programme line.

Christian Dirr - Juggling and clown show (14-15 h, entry possible at any time)

First it sits on his neck, then on his back and suddenly it even makes itself comfortable on his elbow. But the show can only begin once the hat has landed on his head! Of course, Christian Dirr is only too happy to let the children help him with this slapstick juggling - making them part of the programme from the very first second. With charm, experience and empathy, qualified teacher Christian Dirr manages to whisk the children away into his world of creative nonsense and magical moments.
