Flying Grass Carpet

The Flying Grass Carpet is the largest mobile picnic landscape in the world - and a symbol of creative urban design. It conjures up green oases from concrete deserts and transforms urban squares into temporary parks full of life, encounters and community. People come together, have a picnic, play, make music or relax - without the pressure to consume, but with a great deal of openness and joy in being together.

The Kulturkarawane already has the Flying Grass Carpet four times at the Trier cattle market and, in doing so, with over 20 regional and large-scale regional initiatives in the area of Art, culture and climate protection co-operates, including the Local Agenda 21which TUFA Trierthat MoselMusicFestival and the Theatre Trier. The result is a variety of participatory programmes that have invited people of all generations to experience public space in a new way - creatively, inclusively and sustainably.

The carpet also makes an ecological statement: The artificial turf is made from lovingly crafted cutting waste from various sports turfs - an example of successful upcycling. After several years of use, the material can be completely reprocessed by partner companies. This means that the carpet not only looks good, but is also a sustainable source of inspiration in terms of the circular economy.

The Flying Grass Carpet is due to return to Trier in 2026 - as an invitation to everyone to think our city forward together: green, fair and vibrant.
